👨 I am a pyRevit contributor and helped developing Color Splasher in pyRevit.

It has amazing tools and enables Python coding to develop small tools.

However, many people found ⚠️ issues / errors when installing pyRevit.

Whether you are looking for a nice set of Revit tools, a frame to develop your own or a way to share them.

These are the 4 best alternatives that I know:

Key: Make your own Python tools directly within Revit. No External Add-Ins.

Revit includes Dynamo by default since 2019. In Dynamo, you can simply add a Python node and start building tools straight away.

This is how I made and shared more than 35 small tools.

So, I refined a template that I can use, and added a few comments to share it with other people.

The tools you make can also be shared and added to a Revit button with your custom Icon. Check the next Alternative for that.

Key: I am biased 😉 but it is an easy way to have a custom Revit toolbar. It includes 12 Popular Revit tools.

I think the best part is that you can add any of the Popular Tools or customize it with your own Dynamo scripts.

It detects Input Nodes, Packages and all of that.

For sharing toolbars with your team, you can use the Pro version.

Small tools included in the free version.

Key: Advanced Tools in C#. No External Add-Ins.

If you are going into C#, you can just use Macros or create your own plugin with Visual Studio.

There is a Macro Manager in the Manage Tab to edit and run them. Make sure to Enable application Macros also from there.

For sharing, the process is manual. You would have to Copy & Paste folders and files into other PCs.

Key: For Rhino and Grasshopper lovers, this is the way to go.

Essentially, it will take Rhino and Grasshopper into Revit. So, you can run Grasshopper scripts and have some extra Revit nodes.

The McNeel team did a great job here and scripts can be added to the toolbar. Although, I wish it didn´t need Rhino to run.

For sharing with your team, you would have to Copy & Paste the files and install external dependencies. Not ideal tbh.
